picture_1.pngIs the Bible the inspired Word of God?  Fort Lauderdale (FL) teenagers took this critical question to a (mock) court of law earlier this year for a lesson in Christian Apologetics.   The teen ministry from the South Broward Region of the South Florida Church of Christ challenged the teen ministry from the North Broward Region to legally defend the Bible and its claims of divinity.

In order to put “the Bible on Trial”, an official courtroom in the Broward County Courthouse was secured as well as retired judge Joseph Nocca (Barbara Porter’s father) to oversee the proceedings.  Each ministry put together a team of teen lawyers as well as teen “expert witnesses” to take the stand.

picture_2.pngThe prosecution and the defense teams (comprised of teens) spent more than a month in research and preparation for the showdown in the courtroom.  Bible issues and subjects such as alleged contradictions, the creation account in Genesis, Messianic Prophecy, archeology, and the Dead Sea Scrolls were all discussed and debated by both sides.

After a terrific effort by both sides in the courtroom, everyone was declared a winner as everyone’s convictions were challenged and ultimately strengthened by the event.   Putting “the Bible on Trial” served as a reminder to many of the teens that we must be ready to defend what we believe as “true and reasonable”.
